The Opening Event
Upon conclusion of the three-year restoration and preservation process, Agnon House was reopened to the public by a festive ceremony in the presence of the President of the State of Israel, Mr. Shimon Peres, and Mayor of Jerusalem, Mr. Nir Barkat.

In his opening remarks at the event, the President recalled his personal acquaintance with Agnon and spoke of the message brought forth in his story "From Enemy to Lover." Nir Barkat, mayor of the city, spoke of the significance and uniqueness of Beit Agnon on the map of municipal cultural institutions. Remarks were also delivered at the ceremony by Prof. Dan Laor, author of the biography, "The Life of Agnon," by Dr. Ariel Hirschfeld and by Emunah Yaron.

In the latter part of the event, the guests, including donors and supporters of the project, were invited to "tastes of Agnon," a special menu which was prepared according to dishes in Agnon's stories. These included a fruit wine, , potato pancakes and a plum and nut casserole from "A Simple Story" and a cheese and raisin cake from "Temol Shilshom" (Yesterday and the Day Before).

Agnon House has been restored and preserved with the support of the Culture Authority in the Ministry of Science, Culture and Sport; the Jerusalem Municipality, the Beracha Foundation and the Zvi and Ofra Meitar Family Foundation.
